The love affair between Netflix and Korean series continues. The streaming platform has just announced the production of True Lessons, a K-drama starring Kim Moo-yul (Juvenile Justice), Lee Sung-min (Memory), Jin Ki-joo (Undercover High School) and Pyo Ji-hoon (Good Partner).

In this series, adapted from the webtoon Get Schooled by Chae Yong-Taek and Han Ga Ram, Netflix will let us follow Na Hwa-jin (Kim Moo-yul) and the members of the Educational Rights Protection Bureau, an institution whose mission is to “delivering “true lessons” to students, teachers, and parents who dare to cross the line”. To achieve this, Na Hwa-jin and his team are willing to do anything, even break the law.

For this adaptation, the streaming platform called on Hong Jong-chan, director of Juvenile Justice, another series that deals with strong themes related to Korean youth. The scripts are by Lee Nam-kyu, best known for his work on Daily Dose of Sunshine and Detective K.

Actors already convinced

In comments shared by Netflix, the main cast of True Lessons have made no secret of their enthusiasm for the project, starting with Kim Moo-yul, who admits that “everyone’s passion was incredible” when it came to reading the script. Lee Sung-min, who will play the role of Choi Gang-seok, the Minister of Education and creator of the Educational Rights Protection Bureau, says, “I was deeply impressed by writer Lee Nam-kyu’s previous works. Since this is the second time I’m working with director Hong Jong-chan after Juvenile Justice, I have great trust and am most delighted to work with outstanding actors. We will work hard to present a great series.”

For her part, Jin Ki-joo, who will portray Im Han-Rim, aformer special forces officer who joins the Educational Rights Protection Bureau, comments: “Firmly grounded in today’s reality, the script is so compelling. The added fantasy of the Educational Rights Protection Bureau makes me reflect on the issues we should collectively consider as a society.” Pyo Ji-hoon, who will play Bong Geun-dae, the assistant director of the Educational Rights Protection Bureau, adds, “Watching Juvenile Justice, I was amazed by how a series could convey a message to society. I will do my best to learn on set and contribute to creating a good series.”
