The wait is almost over for fans of The Last of Us video game and its HBO/Max series adaptation. On April 13 in the US and April 14 in the UK, Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) will return to the American network and streaming platform for a new seven-episode salvo. Until then, you’ll have to settle for the official trailer that HBO and Max unveiled at the SXSW festival.

In the second season of The Last of Us, we follow Joel and Ellie five years after the events of the first season, as our two protagonists begin to collide in a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind. While the plot of this new season is based on The Last of US Part II, Neil Druckmann, creator of the video game franchise and co-creator of the TV series with Craig Mazin, revealed that we should expect a few surprises: “I love the changes that we’ve made. It’s a different version of that story, but its DNA is in there.”

However, fans can rest assured that, as confirmed several months ago, some of the game’s most iconic characters will be present in the second season of The Last of Us, starting with Abby, played by Kaitlyn Dever (Last Man Standing). She will be joined by Jeffrey Wright (Westworld), Young Mazino (Beef), Isabela Merced (Rosaline), Danny Ramirez (Top Gun: Maverick), Ariela Barer (Runaways), Tati Gabrielle (The 100) and Spencer Lord, who will play Isaac, Jesse, Dina, Manny, Mel, Nora and Owen, respectively.
