Melanie Scrofano is set to star in a new comic book adaptation for the small screen. After four seasons as Wynonna Earp in the series based on Beau Smith‘s graphic novels, the actress has been cast in the lead role in the adaptation of the Revival comics created by Tim Seeley and Mike Norton.
The official synopsis for the Revival series, developed for Syfy, reads: “On one miraculous day in rural Wisconsin, the recently deceased suddenly rise from their graves. But this is no zombie story, as the ‘revived’ appear and act just like they once were. When local officer and single mother Dana Cypress is unexpectedly thrown into the center of a brutal murder mystery of her own, she’s left to make sense of the chaos amidst a town gripped by fear and confusion where everyone, alive or undead, is a suspect.”
Melanie Scrofano, who will play Dana Cypress, will be joined in the credits by Romy Weltman (Backstage), David James Elliott (JAG) and Andy McQueen (Coroner). According to Variety, Romy Weltman will play Dana’s sister Martha “Em” Cypress, a young woman who has been unable to find her place in the world partly due to a chronic illness. David James Elliott will play Wayne, Dana and Em’s father. As the Sheriff of Wausau, he’s determined to keep his town as safe and normal as it was before the events of Revival Day. Finally, Andy McQueen will lend his features to Ibrahim Rahim, a CDC agent stationed in Wausau to investigate the phenomenon that has brought the dead back to life.
Currently filming, the Revival series is the creation of Aaron B. Koontz (The Pale Door) and Luke Boyce (Seeds). At the time of writing, no air date has been announced.
