Netflix has just made two major decisions about its original series: while the sports comedy Running Point has been picked up for a second season, the spy series The Recruit has been canceled for good.
Running Point: An express renewal for the Mindy Kaling series
Netflix has announced the renewal of Running Point for a second season, just one week after the series debuted. Inspired by the world of the Los Angeles Lakers and its president Jeanie Buss, the series follows Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson), an ambitious woman who is named president of the Los Angeles Waves, a legendary basketball franchise, after her brother is forced to resign following a scandal.
With 9.3 million views in its first weekend and a place in the Netflix Top 10 in 83 countries, Running Point has clearly won over audiences. Mindy Kaling, co-creator and executive producer of the series, made no secret of her excitement: “We are so thrilled to be able to deliver a Season 2 of Running Point to the fans of the show. We still cannot believe the response from audiences — thank you to everyone who has watched!” To celebrate the announcement, Netflix has released an official video on X.
It's official: See you next season.

Season 1 stars Kate Hudson, Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Max Greenfield, Toby Sandeman, Chet Hanks, Jay Ellis and Justin Theroux.
The Recruit: end of mission for Noah Centineo
If the renewal of Running Point was quick, so was the cancellation of The Recruit. Just a few weeks after the second season premiered, Netflix decided to end the adventures of Owen Hendricks, the character played by Noah Centineo. Despite encouraging numbers when the second season was released, with The Recruit taking second place in the weekly top 10, it wasn’t enough to convince the streaming platform to renew the series.
Alexi Hawley, creator of The Recruit, reacted to the cancellation on his social networks, recalling the complicated development of the series, with filming particularly affected by the pandemic. Despite the many challenges, the show had managed to build a loyal following, and Alexi Hawley was hoping for the opportunity to produce a movie to wrap up the series. Will he get his wish? Only time will tell.
