While the San Diego Comic Con is currently taking place in the USA, Disney took advantage of the event to announce a new name for the cast of season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the adaptation of Rick Riordan‘s work. During a panel held in the mythical Hall H, Disney+ revealed via a Rick Riordan video that Daniel Diemer, most recently seen in the series Under the Bridge and The Midnight Club, will play Tyson, a character particularly beloved by fans of the literary saga.

As Disney reminds us in a press release, Tyson is a young Cyclops who grew up alone on the streets, struggling to survive in the human world. Shy and awkward, Tyson has a big heart. When he discovers that his father is Poseidon, he learns that he has a half-brother, Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell), and may finally have found a home to stay.

Daniel Diemer made no secret of his excitement at the prospect of playing the character, telling Variety: “I’m thrilled and honored to step into the universe of ‘Percy Jackson.’ I’ve been a fan of the books since I was 10 years old. I can’t wait to bring Tyson to life and introduce him to you all.”

Season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will be based on the novel Sea of Monsters and will follow Percy Jackson as he returns to Camp Half Blood and discovers that the world he knows is in chaos. His friendship with Annabeth is changing, he learns he has a Cyclops for a brother, Grover has disappeared and the camp is under siege from the forces of Cronos. To set things right, Percy must venture into the dangerous Sea of Monsters.
