Ronen Rubinstein, who was in Paris to attend the First Responders Reunion 4, used his first panel to tease a new upcoming project, without giving further details for confidentiality reasons. A few hours later, Variety exclusively revealed the project in question. Let’s take a look.

Andrew Matarazzo and Ronen Rubinstein are heading to the 1800s. As Variety reveals, the stars of Teen Wolf and 9-1-1: Lone Star will join forces in the western Roses, which will begin shooting in mid-December.

Co-written by Alexander Rain and Andrew Matarazzo, the short film will follow “two outlaws, once close partners in crime, find themselves at odds when a once-in-a-lifetime bounty comes into play. But what seems like a simple betrayal is complicated by their deep bond and shared history, leading to a heartbreaking choice between the loot… or their friendship.” The two outlaws at the center of Roses will be played by Andrew Matarazzo and Ronen Rubinstein, while Orlando Pineda (Griselda), also in the cast, will play an undisclosed character.

Andrew Matarazzo and Ronen Rubinstein: A Friendship That Started in Paris

During his second appearance on stage at First Responders Reunion 4, the day after the Variety article was published, Ronen Rubinstein made no secret of his excitement at the prospect of joining the project. After admitting that he didn’t know the official announcement would be made during the convention, just a few hours after his teaser, the actor talked about his friendship with Andrew Matarazzo. A friendship that began during a car ride after a previous convention in Paris, Dream It Not At Home, which they both attended.

Answering the question about the short film Roses, Ronen Rubinstein spoke of his admiration for Andrew Matarazzo, who has many strings to his bow (actor, singer, writer, entrepreneur, creative director…) and whom he considers very talented. So when Andrew Matarazzo suggested he join the project, Ronen Rubinstein didn’t hesitate for a second, especially since he’s a Western fan himself. He concludes: “I feel like I’m in really good hands when I’m working with him and I’m very excited about it. I’m glad that’s finally public.”
