The Resident Evil video game franchise is set to be adapted for the big screen once again. After six movies starring Milla Jovovich, a Netflix series and a commercially unsuccessful 2022 reboot, Constantin Film is set to develop a new feature film set in the world of Capcom’s games.
As revealed exclusively by The Hollywood Reporter, this new Resident Evil film is to be directed and written by Zach Cregger, the man behind Barbarian. The American media outlet reports that he will be joined on the writing front by Shay Hatten. Hatten is best known for writing the last two John Wick movies, as well as Rebel Moon, Army of the Dead and Army of Thieves. Which Resident Evil game will their script be based on? The mystery remains.
At the time of writing, no studio has acquired the rights to this new Resident Evil movie, but The Hollywood Reporter points out that four are in the running, including Warner Bros and Netflix.
