A few months after unveiling the first teaser for Minecraft: The Movie, Warner Bros has released the official trailer for its live-action adaptation of the famous game. In this video, the studio focuses on Jack Black‘s character, Steve, and confirms that the actor, who starred in the last two Jumanji films, will be back for another crazy adventure.
In Minecraft: The Movie, directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite), follows four outsiders – Garrett (Jason Momoa), Henry (Sebastian Eugene Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers) and Dawn (Danielle Brooks) – who are suddenly thrust through a mysterious portal into a cubic world that thrives on imagination. To return home, they must master this world (and protect it from evil creatures like piglins and zombies) as they embark on a fantastic quest alongside expert fabricator Steve (Jack Black). This adventure will push them to be daring and develop their creativity. Skills they will also need to succeed in the real world.
After a controversial first teaser, Warner Bros. is trying to reassure fans of the videogame by reiterating in its press release the CVs of the technical team working on the film. The studio points out that the director has called on cinematographer Enrique Chediak, who was nominated several times for his work on 127 Hours, set designer Grant Major, who won an Oscar for his work on The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, editor James Thomas (Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, Bad Moms), special effects supervisor Dan Lemmon, Oscar winner for The Jungle Book, and costume designer Amanda Neale (What We Do in the Shadows, Sweet Tooth). Will it be enough to attract audiences to the cinemas? The answer will be known in early April 2025.
