Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are stepping down as producers of the successful James Bond franchise. According to a press release from Amazon MGM Studios, the duo will be replaced by Amy Pascal and David Heyman, two well-known figures in the film industry, who will be responsible for the continuing adventures of Agent 007.
In a statement released by the studio, Amy Pascal and David Heyman made no secret of their excitement to join this historic franchise: “James Bond is one of the most iconic characters in the history of cinema. We are humbled to follow in the footsteps of Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson who made so many extraordinary films and honored and excited to keep the spirit of Bond very much alive as he embarks on his next adventure.”
Amy Pascal is best known as one of the producers of the Spider-Man saga with Tom Holland, and is currently working on the Spider-Noir series and Greta Gerwig‘s Narnia films. David Heyman, meanwhile, is one of the historic producers of the Harry Potter films and will reprise that role for the HBO/MAX series adapting J.K. Rowling’s work.
Amy Pascal and David Heyman, who now have creative control over the James Bond franchise, will now have to decide on the name of the next director (Alfonso Cuarón has been mentioned by the American media) and the identity of the actor who will play the role of the world’s most famous film spy. Who do you hope will play the role? Tell us in the comments.
