Netflix loves literary adaptations and will prove it again in 2025 with The Åre Murders, a series that will bring Viveca Sten‘s novels to the small screen. The first season of the Swedish series, which will debut on the streaming platform on February 6, 2025, is based on the first two novels in the saga of the same name.
In The Åre Murders, Netflix subscribers will follow Hanna Ahlander, a suspended Stockholm police officer who decides to move into her sister’s vacation home in Åre. But when a young woman goes missing in the middle of the night, Hanna can’t help but investigate the case and will offer her help to Daniel Lindskog, a local police officer who reluctantly accepts due to an understaffed precinct.
In a statement released by Netflix, Viveca Sten made no secret of her excitement to see her work brought to life on the small screen: “The Åre Murders means a lot to me and I’m very excited that it’s now time for the TV series to see the light of day on a leading streaming service like Netflix! Both as the author of the books and executive producer of the series, it’s hugely exciting to see the characters come to life through such talented actors. My dream, of course, is that the TV series will be just as popular and successful as the books have been both in Sweden and abroad.”
The cast of the first season of The Åre Murders includes Carla Sehn (Love & Anarchy), Kardo Razzazi (Heder), Charlie Gustafsson (The Restaurant), Francisco Sobrado (Fartblinda), Amalia Holm (Motherland: Fort Salem), Frida Argento (Young Royals), Agnes Kittelsen (Exit), Robin Stegmar (The Pirate Bay), Olle Sarri (Snödrömmar), Jon Øigarden (Exit), Samuel Astor (Young Royals) and Moa Gammel (Jordskott).
